Join in with your child’s dance class and celebrate this special occasion by dancing together in your own house! We have some special parent and child routines planned for this week for those who wish to join in 🙂
The Mothers Day dance along is open to the following classes:

Pupils will invite their household members to come and watch part of their lesson during this week! You can then see a small clip of what pupils have worked on this term all from the comfort of your sofa!
We have LOVED receiving videos/photos of pupils participating in their online classes last term. If you have anymore photos/videos of your child dancing at home that you would like to share on our SLH facebook page then send them in to firstname.lastname@example.org
SLH Facebook Page
Make sure you don’t miss out on our latest events and reminders by following our SLH Dance Academy facebook page which is regularly updated…
Give us a follow and let’s see how many new likes we can get this month!
As always it is really important pupils are wearing the correct uniform for their classes even online please. It not only allows pupils to “feel the part” and feel part of a team but also allows teachers to see the correct alignment of the body which is very important in being able to correct technique and posture!
The only classes where uniform is optional is Monday and Tuesday Pre-School Ballet classes.
Finally I must say an official welcome to our new teacher Miss Lucy who joined us at the start of the year! Miss Lucy is taking our Grade 2 Modern and Tap classes on a Tuesday afternoon alongside our special online stretch/routine class. She is a qualified ISTD Tap and Modern teacher with a bubbly personality and infectious energy! Lucy has really enjoyed getting to know some of our dancers online and hopes to meet lots more of you soon in person!
Welcome Miss Lucy 🙂
We hope your children all have a great term of classes and we can’t wait for all the exciting opportunities we have planned this term 🙂
I hope everyone has had a lovely summer and that your children are settling back into school well! I am sure many of you are looking forward to restoring some form of “normality” over these next few weeks! We are really looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces again and excited to welcome some new pupils to the school too.
We have worked very hard behind the scenes and are confident in the plans and procedures that we have in place to ensure a safe return for all 😊
Please bare with us whilst we find our feet and adjust to this new way of teaching and running the school. I am sure we will all become very used to the new way of dancing very quickly!
Here are a few reminders for the term ahead:
Saturday 12th September – Saturday 24th October
No classes Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th September.
(No classes w/c 26th October due to half term)
Timetable and Invoices
You will have received by now a copy of our timetable and your invoice for the term. (Pre-School parents yours will come this week). Check your invoice carefully as this will have details of your child’s class time and room their lesson will take place in. Please also ensure payments are made by BACS on the due date on your invoice to avoid late payment fees being added.
A reminder that all classes this term will take place from
Kings Church, Lewes, BN7 2BY.
Please be aware that there are building works going on just outside of the carpark with lots of large trucks etc so please do supervise children carefully when entering and leaving the car park on foot!
We understand that pupils may have grown since their last class with us and that uniform has not been as readily available as usual. Therefore if it takes you a couple of weeks to get back in to full uniform then please do not worry, we understand!
If your child has moved up grades and onto a different leotard colour then there is no pressure to buy this straight away. If you would rather wait until they grow out of their old colour first then that is absolutely fine!
Our full uniform list required for all classes can be viewed here:
If you do require new uniform then please contact our supplier Jenny of “Limelight Dancewear” on 01825 765555 and she will be able to make arrangements with you directly. We hope to do a uniform sale by appointment at the end of September and details will be with you shortly on this.
A reminder that due to gov guidance all pupils must wear shoes for all dance classes at the moment. Ballet and Jazz shoes are both suitable or trainers/plimsoles/trampoline socks. These must be different from what they have worn outside to class.Regrettably at this time if your child does not have shoes to change into then they will not be allowed to participate.
Thank you to those of you who have completed your re-enrolment on our customer portal already. If you haven’t done so yet please register via the link emailed out to you before your child’s first lesson! We have updated our terms and conditions and policies which you are required to agree to as part of the re-enrolment.
The portal will be a great way for you to update contact details, see your child’s class details and view our policies etc so I hope this will be beneficial to you all.
Please ensure you have fully read through our COVID-19 secure procedures that were emailed out to you so you know what to expect. If you missed our email then you can view the procedures here https://slhdanceacademy.com/ts-cs/
We are really grateful in advance for your co-operation with the above.
A reminder that we will be operating a drop, go and collect system for classes. Please do not congregate outside the building during classes. Parents of older pupils are encouraged to stay in the car and watch pupils be greeted at the main entrance by their class teacher as much as possible. At this time parents are not allowed to enter the building before/during/after dance classes.
**Parents of children aged 5 years and under or new starters are to wait outside Kings Church preferably in the car or socially distanced on the path during your child’s lesson please.**
Drop off and collection points will be signposted on the doors at Kings.
Many thanks to all our pre-school parents who have been patiently waiting for more details on the return to these classes. It has been a little bit more complex sorting logistics out for our Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning pre-school classes but I look forward to sending you your information this week and getting our youngest dancers back in the studio this September! You will be sent, invoices, covid-19 procedures and portal details too as well with this information.
Please encourage younger pupils to go to the toilet before arriving at Kings Church and ensure they are capable of using the toilet by themselves.
We do have some availability left in a few of our classes. If your child has a friend or sibling that is interested in joining us then please do get them to contact us and we can see if we have availability for them. Pupils can start with us from the age of 2 so there really is something for everyone!
Half Term Workshop
We are looking to run some half term workshops on Wednesday 28th October so pop this date in your diary and we will release more information in the next couple of weeks!
All the SLH Dance Academy team are eagerly ready to go and cannot wait to bring back the magic of dance through our classes. We completely understand that pupils may be feeling a little anxious about returning after so long but we hope that with your guidance before and familiar faces from their dancing friends they will settle back in quickly 😊
Dance has so many benefits for students mental and physical wellbeing and we understand the importance on them having fun as they get back to classes! All SLH teachers will strive to make the return to classes as happy and positive as we possibly can!!
I can’t believe we are coming into the final few weeks of this academic year already! Things obviously haven’t quite gone to plan over the last few months and like everyone I have had to adapt to a new way of running my business along with dealing with personal challenges and struggles that COVID-19 has faced us all with. I am so grateful for the support everyone has shown to SLH Dance Academy over these last few months and it has really touched me seeing how many of our dancers have committed to online classes. I know it has not always been easy dancing via zoom and there have been technical glitches along the way but I think this has experience has really shown pupils that they can adapt to any situation and for that I am very proud of them. So, from the bottom of my heart thank you to everyone who has supported me, it really does mean a lot.
This term will finish on Thursday 16th July. We will then break for the summer holidays. We will be using this break to re charge our batteries ready for September!
I am going to be making a “dancing through lockdown” video to wrap up this strange term and I really need everyone’s help! Please send me any videos or photos you have of your children dancing at home in their online classes. I will also be teaching some classes some choreography to film themselves doing at home too within the next week. My plan is to edit it all into one video/photo montage for our pupils that we can hopefully look back on in a years time with happy memories of how we kept dancing in lockdown! To make it a success I need as many of you as possible to get involved!!! Please send videos/photos that you wish to be included by Sunday 12th July.
End of Term Workshop
I have arranged another online West End workshop at the end of this term for all pupils! The workshops will be run by Mike Denman, one of the UKs leading West End stars with over two decades in the industry. He has west end credits such as The Wizard of Oz, Matilda, Never Forget, Chicago and Thoroughly Modern Millie, to name just a few! These workshops are set to be tonnes of fun and will be a great way for pupils to have some fun learning routines from these iconic musicals and from a West End star…
Thursday 23rd July
10.00am-11.10am (6 – 10 year olds) Matilda the Musical
Pupils will learn choreography from the number “Revolting Children” from Matilda the musical plus a 10 minute Q + A session at the end
11.30am-12.40pm ( 10 year olds + ) Saturday Night Fever
This workshop features some of the best 70s moves and will be sure to leave you feeling good and smiling! There will be a 10 min Q + A session at the end
As a special thank you to pupils I have discounted the cost of the workshop significantly to just £3.00 per student! Spaces available on a first come first served basis so drop me an email ASAP to book your space.
On the final week of term I am going to be doing some special lessons with pupils as a well done for this term. These will include some games and choreography challenges! As a treat I would also like to invite all pupils to trial any class on our timetable for FREE. If your son/daughter wants to try a different style of dance then now is your chance to do so completely free of charge and from the comfort of your own home! We have ballet, tap, modern and jazz dance classes on our online timetable. Don’t worry if your child hasn’t been doing online classes this term they are still welcome to join us, we would LOVE to see you! All you need to do is drop me a message to let me know what style of dance your child is interested in trying and I will let you know of the appropriate class for their age 😊
Normally by this point I would have finalised the timetable and plan for September! But, much to my disappointment I am unable to do so until we receive further guidance from the government. I am hopeful that we will be able to get back to some “real life” classes in some form in September and that is what I am working towards. Please rest assured that the safety of SLH Dance Academy pupils, families and staff is always our priority and we will return to classes when we are allowed and when it is safe to do so. We will of course be putting in important measures when we get back to class to keep everyone safe and these will be released as and when we know more. I will of course keep you updated with the plan over the Summer ASAP.
There is a little something making its way in the post to all SLH Dance Academy pupils in the next few weeks to say thank you for dancing with me this term. Keep an eye on your post and do send me pictures or post on our SLH Dance Academy Facebook page when you have received yours 😊 (If your address has changed recently do let me know asap so your child doesn’t miss out!)
I can’t believe we have reached the end of term already! It has been a great term welcoming lots of new faces and everyone is progressing well in classes!
Here are a few reminders for you as we approach the end of term on Tuesday 11th December.

St Mary’s Pantomime 2019
Excited that Georgie.B, Olive, Lola.M, Jessica.L and Grace.H will be representing SLH Dance Academy in the St Mary’s Panto “Cinderella”. Do go and support them as it is sure to be a fantastic show as always.
Please ensure hair is neatly groomed for classes with a ballet bun for all ballet classes. It really does make a difference in how the children dance in class when they look and feel the part. Thank you to those pupils who do attend class neatly groomed and dressed correctly each week.
You can contact our uniform supplier Jenny of “Limelight Dancewear” on 01825 765555
Invoices for the new term will be sent out in the next few weeks so please keep an eye on your inboxes. Please make sure fees are paid by the due date on the invoice and remember that at least 3 weeks’ notice must be given if your child wishes to stop a class. I will assume that your child wishes to continue a class unless I am told otherwise and therefore an invoice will be sent!!
If your child would like to try a new class in the New Year please let me know ASAP so I can reserve them a space!
Have you got a younger child that watches their older siblings dance and wants to follow in their footsteps? Malling Centre Refurbishment As you may/may not be aware the Malling Community Centre is due to undergo a big refurbishment to provide a brand new facility for the community. It is still unknown when this will be starting but when it does take place we will have to move venues during the refurbishment I am in the process of sorting alternative venues which is proving quite a challenge! If you have any contacts within the local primary schools for the use of their hall please do get in touch. As soon as I have more information I will let you know but rest assured I am on the case!
Terms and Conditions Update To ensure SLH Dance Academy is GDPR compliant I will be updating/reviewing my terms and conditions policy during the Easter holidays. All parents will be sent the updated conditions in due course.
Thank you for your continued support and I hope you have a fabulous Easter break!! Bring on a very exciting Summer term!
I hope you are all having a fabulous Summer. With now over 80 students attending classes with SLH Dance Academy last term was definately a busy one and we can’t wait to get back to it this September.
I have been very busy planning the new term and we are now taking bookings for new pupils to start this September. A lot of our classes are very booked up already so please do get in touch in the next few weeks if you would like to book your child in for a taster session next term. Our full timetable can be viewed here…
I have had lots of enquiries already for children wanting to add more classes to their weekly schedule. If your child is interested in having a go at another dance style alongside their normal class then please do get in touch ASAP. Remember we have Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz classes for all age groups throughout the week.
This is a brand NEW class starting Tuesday 12th September 5.00pm-5.30pm @ Malling Community Centre for Receptions- Year 2’s olds who are new to tap dancing and love making lots of noise!! It follows our Grade 1 Modern class also suitable for this age group and would be great if they were looking to do a back to back class in Modern and Tap. The class will teach them the basic steps of tap following the extremely fun ISTD Primary Tap syllabus. If your child is interested then do get in touch to book a free taster. Please be quick though as I am sure it will be very popular with our younger students!
Please note that children must have the correct uniform for all classes. The only exception for this is Pre-School Ballet (2-3 year olds). I would also like to remind you that hair for all classes must be off the face and tied up neatly in a ponytail, plait, bun etc. All ballet pupils (Primary level and above in particular) MUST have a ballet bun for all classes as of September. This is so that the teacher can view their neck line easily and also makes them feel the part in class.
Jenny of Limelight our uniform supplier will be attending classes on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th September so please do go and visit her to get fitted properly.
SLH Dance Academy Hoodies, teddies, onesies and more can be purchased from the following link. They will make perfect birthday or Christmas presents for your dancer. http://getmekitted.com/slh-77-c.asp
Monday 11th September- Saturday 9th December
(No classes w/c 23rd October due to half term)
12 week term
From September I will be making some slight changes with how I run my Pre-School classes. If your child attend a Pre-School class (2-3 year olds) then parents are invited to stay during the lesson to assist your child. However if your child is in the Pre-School (3-4 year olds) class then I will be asking parents to wait outside of the room during the lesson. I feel that this will prepare them for starting school and also will help aid concentration during the lesson. We will have watching classes throughout the year where I will invite parents to watch their child lesson to see progression.
Terms and Conditions and Safeguarding policy
I have updated my terms and conditions and safeguarding policy. This can be found here.By attending classes with us you must adhere by our conditions so please read through carefully.
All invoices have been sent out with this newsletter. If you haven’t received yours or if your child would like to swap days for a particular class then please let me know sooner than later.
We had 23 students taking part in ISTD Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap exams at the end of last term. Each and every child worked extremely hard in the lead up to the exams and it was fantastic to see their progression and enthusiasm. Once all the results have been received from the ISTD I will email out individually to all parents. Fingers crossed!
Summer School 2017
We had another very successful Summer School this year with students learning song and dances from Aladdin, Motown the musical, Sofia the First and Moana. I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the week and keep your eyes peeled for more holiday workshops in the coming school year.
Musical Theatre Classes
During the Summer School I had many parents enquiring about musical theatre classes. It is something that I would love to add to the SLH Dance Academy timetable so please let me know if this is something your child would be interested in and I will see if I can add some classes in from Ocotber half term. Musical Theatre would involve singing, dancing and acting (sometimes at the same time!) and the children would learn pieces from musicals and even have the chance to work towards exams.
Summer Show 2018
After the success of our Christmas performance last year I have decided that it is time for SLH Dance Academy to hold it’s first proper dance show. I am currently in the process of sourcing a suitable venue and date and as soon as this has been decided I will let you know so you can add it to your diary! More information to follow soon…
Good luck to all my lovely little pre-schoolers who will be starting Primary School this September and any children moving up to Secondary School. I hope they settle in well and look forward to seeing them at one of our Pre-Primary classes this term.
Finally I hope you have a great rest of the Holidays and I look forward to welcoming you all back from Monday 11th September.
