Summer Newsletter 2020!

Wow!!

I can’t believe we are coming into the final few weeks of this academic year already! Things obviously haven’t quite gone to plan over the last few months and like everyone I have had to adapt to a new way of running my business along with dealing with personal challenges and struggles that COVID-19 has faced us all with. I am so grateful for the support everyone has shown to SLH Dance Academy over these last few months and it has really touched me seeing how many of our dancers have committed to online classes. I know it has not always been easy dancing via zoom and there have been technical glitches along the way but I think this has experience has really shown pupils that they can adapt to any situation and for that I am very proud of them. So, from the bottom of my heart thank you to everyone who has supported me, it really does mean a lot.

Summer Term

This term will finish on Thursday 16th July. We will then break for the summer holidays. We will be using this break to re charge our batteries ready for September!

Video Montage

I am going to be making a “dancing through lockdown” video to wrap up this strange term and I really need everyone’s help! Please send me any videos or photos you have of your children dancing at home in their online classes. I will also be teaching some classes some choreography to film themselves doing at home too within the next week. My plan is to edit it all into one video/photo montage for our pupils that we can hopefully look back on in a years time with happy memories of how we kept dancing in lockdown! To make it a success I need as many of you as possible to get involved!!! Please send videos/photos that you wish to be included by Sunday 12th July.

End of Term Workshop

I have arranged another online West End workshop at the end of this term for all pupils! The workshops will be run by Mike Denman, one of the UKs leading West End stars with over two decades in the industry. He has west end credits such as The Wizard of Oz, Matilda, Never Forget, Chicago and Thoroughly Modern Millie, to name just a few! These workshops are set to be tonnes of fun and will be a great way for pupils to have some fun learning routines from these iconic musicals and from a West End star…

Thursday 23rd July

10.00am-11.10am (6 – 10 year olds) Matilda the Musical

Pupils will learn choreography from the number “Revolting Children” from Matilda the musical plus a 10 minute Q + A session at the end

11.30am-12.40pm ( 10 year olds + ) Saturday Night Fever

This workshop features some of the best 70s moves and will be sure to leave you feeling good and smiling! There will be a 10 min Q + A session at the end

As a special thank you to pupils I have discounted the cost of the workshop significantly to just £3.00 per student! Spaces available on a first come first served basis so drop me an email ASAP to book your space.

Taster Week

On the final week of term I am going to be doing some special lessons with pupils as a well done for this term. These will include some games and choreography challenges! As a treat I would also like to invite all pupils to trial any class on our timetable for FREE. If your son/daughter wants to try a different style of dance then now is your chance to do so completely free of charge and from the comfort of your own home! We have ballet, tap, modern and jazz dance classes on our online timetable. Don’t worry if your child hasn’t been doing online classes this term they are still welcome to join us, we would LOVE to see you! All you need to do is drop me a message to let me know what style of dance your child is interested in trying and I will let you know of the appropriate class for their age 😊

Next Term

Normally by this point I would have finalised the timetable and plan for September! But, much to my disappointment I am unable to do so until we receive further guidance from the government. I am hopeful that we will be able to get back to some “real life” classes in some form in September and that is what I am working towards. Please rest assured that the safety of SLH Dance Academy pupils, families and staff is always our priority and we will return to classes when we are allowed and when it is safe to do so. We will of course be putting in important measures when we get back to class to keep everyone safe and these will be released as and when we know more. I will of course keep you updated with the plan over the Summer ASAP.

Thank You’s

There is a little something making its way in the post to all SLH Dance Academy pupils in the next few weeks to say thank you for dancing with me this term. Keep an eye on your post and do send me pictures or post on our SLH Dance Academy Facebook page when you have received yours 😊 (If your address has changed recently do let me know asap so your child doesn’t miss out!)

Facebook Page

To stay in touch and keep up to date with any events/workshops then please give the SLH Dance Academy Facebook page a like and share… https://www.facebook.com/SLHDanceAcademy

If you have a spare moment and you would like to then please do also pop us a quick review too as this will be really helpful for potential new parents as we rebuild the school in September!

Show 2020

As you know our show 2020 sadly couldn’t happen this term but there are things in the pipeline for a new date in 2021. It will definitely be worth the wait and will bigger and better than before!

Finally I would just like to wish you all a really happy and most importantly healthy Summer Holiday!

Myself and all the teachers at SLH Dance Academy have really missed seeing everyone in person each week and we are SO excited to get back to normal classes as soon as we can!!!

Take care and keep in touch,

Sophie
